Singaraja- Facing the challenges of the 21st century and industrial revolution 4.0, the English Education Study Program at the University of Education of Ganesha (Undiksha) held Technical Assistance, Monday (4/11/2019). The activity, which took the theme “Assessing EFL Learning in the 21st Century Skills Framework”, presented speakers from Malang State University, Prof. Dr. Gunadi Harry Sulistyo, M.A.
This seminar was deliberately held in order to explore how the assessment is carried out within the framework of 21st-century education. As stated by the Head of the Committee, Dr. Ni Luh Putu Eka Sulistia Dewi, S.Pd., M.Pd. “Because in 21st-century education, the biggest challenge is the industrial revolution 4.0. So that in this activity we invite lecturers and students to share and add insight into the world of assessment,” she said. The doctoral graduate of Malang State University also hopes that through this activity he can improve pedagogical skills and implement them in classroom learning. In addition, so that later students and lecturers can work together when faced directly with the assessment during real PPL at school. “Problem-solving skills, critical thinking, collaborating, and communicating are very much needed and of course, such learning has many challenges. A teacher does not only determine the learning model. But it is also about how to plan and carry out assessments,” she added.
The seminar which was held in the FBS Nitisastra Room was opened by the Dean of FBS, Prof. Dr. I Made Sutama, M.Pd. He really hopes that through the presence of competent speakers, he can increase the knowledge of lecturers and students, so that they are more competitive. The dean who had served as Vice Chancellor I of Undiksha also mentioned that for teachers at any level, assessment is something that must be done. “Evaluation is an integral part of the curriculum. Between components of the curriculum are always connected. For example, Evaluation determines whether the curriculum goals are achieved or not. So as a prerequisite for evaluation, carrying out the assessment is very important,” she explained.
This academic from Ubud, Gianyar emphasized that the curriculum would always change along with the development of science and technology and the needs of the community. “Changes in the demands of the 21st century are in the world of work. This makes the implementation of education now trying to produce graduates who are able to meet the demands of the 21st century and are ready to compete in the industrial revolution 4.0,” she said.
