Singaraja- Doctoral and Master programs in English Education Study Programs at Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha (Undiksha) not only pay attention to implementing education and teaching by their fields of study. More than that, it also pays special attention to inclusive education.
This attention is shown by increasing understanding and insight into inclusive education through organizing a public lecture in collaboration with the Indonesian Postgraduate Foreign Language Education Association or Asosiasi Pendidikan Bahasa Asing Pascasarjana Indonesia (APBAPI), Wednesday (14/12/2022). The public lecture, which took place online, was attended by postgraduate students for Undiksha’s English Education Study Program and similar study programs included in the APBAPI. Two speakers were presented, Agaath Hoeksema from The Netherlands, who presented the material “Curriculum for students with Special Needs,” and Prof. Dr. Ni Nyoman Padmadewi, M.A from Undiksha who presented the material “Teaching English in Inclusive School and ideas for further research.”
Implementing this public lecture is inseparable from today’s challenges in inclusive education. These challenges are not only in the uneven understanding and attitudes among the community about inclusive education as well as infrastructure and school environments that are not fully accessible, but also the limited knowledge and skills of teachers in providing educational services to children with special needs. Through this public lecture, it is hoped that a solution will be offered to overcome these challenges.
The implementation of this public lecture is also inseparable from Undiksha as an Educational Institution that has the authority to prepare prospective teachers and needs to make an effort so that the implementation of inclusive education can run better.
This activity was opened by the Secretary of APBAPI, Ahmad Munir, S.Pd., M.Ed., Ph.D. He appreciated the implementation of this first activity from APBAPI, and it is hoped that it can be carried out sustainably. “We hope that this public lecture can be a space to improve insight and share ideas and thoughts, especially in the field of education. Hopefully, activities like this can be carried out regularly,” he hoped. (hms)
