Singaraja- The Masters and Doctoral Study Programs in English Language Education Postgraduate Program at the University of Education of Ganesha (Undiksha) in collaboration with the Indonesian Postgraduate Foreign Language Education Association (APBAPI) again held a guest lecture, Friday (9/6/2023). This public lecture which took place online raised the topic of inclusive communication (inclusive communication).
This lecture invites speakers from general Educational Science and Diversity-Conscious Education, Alps Adria University, Austria, Dr. Edwin Hoffman. He is a lecturer, researcher, trainer, and advisor with cross-cultural communication expertise (intercultural communication) and diversity competence, namely abilities that involve cultural, emotional, and intelligence that enable a person to work effectively with people who come from different backgrounds. This seminar was attended by hundreds of students from tertiary institutions who are members of APBAPI.
Regarding the topics discussed, inclusive communication is a communication approach that allows as many people as possible to be involved in an interaction. This approach recognizes that humans use many ways to understand and express themselves. This approach also encourages, supports, and enables humans to use multiple ways to understand and express themselves in the most accessible way. Therefore, an understanding of inclusive communication is very important to have, especially for students. “By understanding inclusive communication, we will know how to communicate in various situations, both communication between individuals, within an organization, as well as communication that involves the wider population. Besides that, inclusive communication can also be applied in various modes such as face-to-face, oral and written communication, and communication using social media,” said APBAPI Representative, Prof. Amrin Saragih, Ph.D.
On this occasion, he also explained that this public lecture for students, lecturers, and professors was one of the programs APBAPI. “This time is the implementation of the second public lecture,” he explained while hoping that this public lecture could enrich educational horizons.
Coordinator of Undiksha’s English Education Study Program Masters, Prof. Luh Putu Artini, M.A., Ph.D., who represented the Director of the Undiksha Postgraduate Program, expressed his appreciation for APBAPI’s trust in collaborating with Undiksha in organizing this guest lecture. “We are very pleased to be able to collaborate to organize this extraordinary guest lecture.
