Strengthening understanding and awareness regarding natural disasters for the academic community and the general public is the concern of the Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha). This was conveyed in a public lecture, on Friday (16/11) yesterday, in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM). Taking place in the Undiksha Auditorium Building, the activity with the theme Socialization of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources’ Work Achievements “Geological Disaster Mitigation” presented the Head of BPSDM ESDM I Gusti Ngurah Wiratmaja, and the Head of the Geological Agency Rudy Suhendar as resource persons.
Deputy Chancellor III Undiksha, Dr. I Gusti Ngurah Pujawan, M.Kes., said that the Bali region has the potential to be hit by geological disasters, in the form of land shifts, earthquakes, volcanoes, and tsunamis. Due to this, it is very appropriate to provide knowledge to the public about things that must be done. “We cannot predict when a disaster will occur. “Through these resource persons, we will present material on how to anticipate disasters and the steps that must be taken,” he said.
It is hoped that the information from the seminar, which was attended by hundreds of students, especially from the Geography Department, can be campaigned to the wider community. “With this, all people can have self-awareness regarding disasters that might strike at any time,” he said.
Head of the Geological Agency, Rudy Suhendar, explained that the potential for geological disasters occurs almost throughout Indonesia. For this reason, through this outreach, public awareness and sensitivity need to be increased so that they can anticipate victims, both material and mental. “All Indonesian people must be prepared to face such a disaster. “Therefore, how to mitigate the preparations so that in the future, this incident can avoid victims,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Head of BPSDM ESDM, I Gusti Ngurah Wiratmaja, conveyed the progress that had been achieved in the energy and mineral resources sectors. The aim is none other than for students as the millennial generation to know the challenges and opportunities that exist, including the opportunity to contribute to smooth development in Indonesia. On this occasion, it was also conveyed
To compete in the world of work, students must have a competency certificate. In the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, there is an institution that facilitates this and cooperation can be established. “Through this, Undiksha graduates will not only work in Bali but also in Kalimantan, we have even opened a network with the Middle East which has many gas and oil fields,” he concluded.
