The 31st Anniversary Celebration of the Ganesha University of Education displayed a different feel to the previous year. The celebration is not only filled with activities that explore the excellence of each faculty and the talents of students in various fields. But there was also a harmony jogging performance which managed to win a world record from the Indonesian Museum of Records (MURI).
This performance was attended by 1,131 Undiksha students from eight faculties. Participants seemed enthusiastic to show their talents at Ucapara Field which was witnessed by Undiksha leadership, representatives from MURI, and students. Wearing white kebayas and gold hoops, the dancers immediately formed a line and performed uniform movements that blended well with the music of the gamelan.
This performance sparked emotion from the Deputy Director of the Indonesian World Records Museum, Osmar Semesta Susilo. According to him, Undiksha has recorded an extraordinary record, namely jogging by 1,131 dancers and this is a world record. “We from MURI can already claim that this is a world record because in no other part of the world does harmonious jogging dance like today. “The certificate has been submitted,” he said. The condition for becoming a world record is that it must be something unique to Indonesia, one of which is harmony jogging.
Undiksha Chancellor, Prof. Dr. I Wayan Lasmawan, M.Pd said that the emergence of the idea of mass jogging was inseparable from the phenomenon in society. The joged dance, which has long been known as a dance of friendship or social relations that is supposed to strengthen human relationships, actually seems to deviate from its standard or does not look quite right. Undiksha wants to support this Balinese art to continue to exist and be performed according to its spirit.
“This is actually what is behind us at Undiksha to take a role in saving and returning the joged dance to true dignity, namely as a friendship dance that is used to build harmony in life, namely harmony and this is in line with Undiksha’s philosophy of Tri Hita Karana,” he explained.
It is hoped that the recognition of the world record for Joged Harmoni will inspire the enthusiasm of the people, especially Bali, in maintaining culture and art that is in harmony with the true spirit. The Chancellor from Bangli Regency also expressed his appreciation to students for their participation in this performance and the preparations made long ago.
