Singaraja- Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha (Undiksha) also cares about the impact of flash floods in Banyupoh Village, Gerokgak District, Buleleng Regency. This caring was shown through social action activities, Wednesday (2/15/2023).
This social service activity was carried out by deploying the Disaster Preparedness Team with student members of the Student Activity Unit of the Disaster Preparedness, Indonesian Red Cross, Student Nature Lovers, Scout, and Student Regiment. Under the supervisor’s attention, this team worked together to clean up mud on the village road and pieces of wood in the middle of the Taman Belatung Temple, which was also affected by the flash flood on February 11, 2023.
In addition to these activities, Undiksha also handed over 60 food packages to affected residents. The handover was led directly by the Rector, Prof. Dr. I Nyoman Jampel, M.Pd. He was accompanied by the Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Public Relations, and Alumni, Prof. Dr. I Wayan Suastra, M.Pd., Head of the General and Financial Bureau, Ni Luh Wayan Yasmiati, S.H., M.Pd., Head of the Academic, Student Affairs, Planning, and Cooperation Bureau, Drs. I Made Yasa, M.Pd., and Secretary of the Institute for Quality Assurance and Learning Development, Dr. I Gusti Agung Lanang Parwata, M.Kes.
The assistance was symbolically handed over to the Banyupoh Village Government and several residents. On this occasion, Undiksha Rector Prof. Jampel conveyed that social service is one of the programs routinely implemented by Undiksha, especially for the impact of disasters. Apart from easing the burden on the affected community, this activity is also a concrete manifestation of Tri Hita Karana in terms of pawongan, namely establishing good relations with others. The Tri Hita Karana philosophy is also used as a frame in all activities of the academic community as well as a foundation for realizing the university’s vision. “The assistance we provide is not much, but we hope it can ease the economic burden on residents,” he said.
Banyupoh Village Chief Ketut Bijaksana explained that 60 families were affected by the flash flood. Their houses were inundated with water and mud. The disaster also washed away one resident’s kitchen building and cut off the clean water network. Handling efforts have been carried out by residents who synergize with related parties.
He appreciated Undiksha’s concern for distributing aid to ease the burden on its citizens. “We thank you for Undiksha’s attention,” he said. Appreciation was also expressed by the Buleleng Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD). Junior Expert Disaster Management Organizer, Haryanto Totok, who represented the Chief Executive of BPBD Buleleng, hoped this disaster management synergy with Undiksha could be sustainable. “Because BPBD is dealing with a large area of Buleleng Regency and has the potential for various disasters, then the number of personnel is limited, therefore we invite Undiksha to be involved in disaster management,” he said.
According to him, this synergy is also an implementation of the mandate of Law Number 24 of 2017 concerning Disaster Management, which emphasizes that the responsibility for disaster management is not only BPBD but also the government, community, business world, and universities. “Therefore, in the future, we can establish cooperation, both through training and others,” he hoped.
For information, the flash flood disaster that occured in Banyupoh Village was the second time. The first disaster occurred in 2016.
