Singaraja-Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) held a socialization about soft skills for students, Thursday (9/1/2020). The socialization which took place in the Rectorate’s Ganesha III Room presented the Director of Student Affairs for the 2015-2019 period, Didin Wahidin.
He explained that soft skills are very important to face competition in the world of work which is getting tougher, especially in the era of the industrial revolution 4.0. Therefore, universities, including Undiksha are expected to pay serious attention. Students need to be directed to aspects of problem-solving, leadership, teamwork, and so on. “Soft skills are important to instill in students. Things that are relevant and needed by the world of work,” he said.
Qualified human resources, he continued, will make universities more competitive in the international world, including in their contribution to building the nation and state. “In facing this competition, don’t forget the traditions and local wisdom that Bali and Indonesia generally have, so that we can develop anywhere, at any height,” he said.
Attention to the development of soft skills by tertiary institutions is considered to tend to increase. This is shown by increasing the number of student achievement reports. “Now two-thirds of tertiary institutions realize the importance of student activities,” he added.
Vice Chancellor III Undiksha, Prof. Dr. I Wayan Suastra, M.Pd., after opening the socialization emphasized Undiksha’s concern in developing student soft skills through various activities, such as outbound and through student organizations. “We continue to emphasize that soft skills are important. To be able to compete, students don’t only need to rely on academic ability,” he emphasized. It is hoped that what was conveyed by this resource person will further raise awareness for students. “I want this socialization to be of benefit to students. Undiksha students must be a superior generation,” he added. (hms)
