Prof. Dr. I Wayan Lasmawan, M, Pd., was appointed Chancellor of the University of Education of Ganesha (Undiksha) for the 2023-2027 period, Thursday (13/4/2023). He was appointed concurrently with a number of other university rectors by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemdikbudristek) Ir. Suharti, M.A., Ph.D in Jakarta.
This inauguration was also attended by the Chancellor of Undiksha for the 2019-2023 period, Prof. Dr. I Nyoman Jampel, M.Pd. He simultaneously handed over the position of rector he had held for two terms. Lasmawan’s appointment as rector followed his election by the Undiksha Senate and the power of attorney from the Minister of Education and Research and Technology in the election that took place on January 11, 2023. In this Pilrek contestation, Lasmawan earned the full vote, namely as many as 58 votes. At that time, he was running as a candidate for chancellor with Dr. I Wayan Artanayasa, M.Pd, and Prof. Dr. I Ketut Sudiana, M.Kes.
As a rector, Lasmawan carries a vision that is believed to support Undiksha’s future progress. Its vision is to Realize Undiksha as an International Reputable University in Education and Leadership (IRUEL). This vision is to continue what has been emphasized by the Chancellor, Prof. Jampel on his leadership in the 2019-2023 period. “Of course, this is what I have to be able to do within the next 4 years,” he said.
One of the strategic programs designed to realize this vision is to turn Undiksha, which is now a Public Service Agency (PTN-BLU) State University, into a Legal Entity PTN (BH). In addition, IRUEL is expected to be realized through a collaboration program that truly refers to the QS 100 world ranking.
Another thing that he thinks is important to do in the future is strengthening the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, namely Education and Teaching, Research, and Community Service. Likewise increasing the achievement of Main Performance Indicators (IKU) of Higher Education as well as specifically making improvements and strengthening learning infrastructure is Undiksha’s responsibility to the community.
After the inauguration, the Chancellor from Bonyoh Village, Kintamani District, Bangli Regency will of course form close ranks with other leadership ranks to design and strengthen the implementation of the program going forward. “Of course to make this happen, we have to be together. In Undiksha togetherness has been going very well. I hope this can be maintained in order to make Undiksha more superior and competitive,” he concluded.
Secretary General of the Ministry of Education and Culture, Suharti said that universities have a big duty to ensure that Indonesia has superior human resources who can make a major contribution to Indonesia’s development. It is hoped that the newly appointed chancellors will pay attention to this and be able to carry out strategic programs.
Delivered further, under the leadership of the Minister of Education and Culture Nadin Anwar Makarim many breakthroughs have been made in tertiary institutions, especially through the Independent Learning Campus Merdeka (MBKM) policy. Apart from that, the government has also paid great attention to ensuring that the gap in education services is reduced, especially for underprivileged children as well as for children with special needs. The continuation of this program is also expected to get full support from universities. “Therefore, gentlemen who are inaugurated today, please continue to be with us to make all the policies that have been taken by the Ministry of Education and Culture and Technology to ensure that services in higher education can run even better from time to time,” he asked.
