Badung – Hundreds of Teacher Profession Education (PPG) student Teacher Candidates from the 2024 Batch II at Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) participated in an education activity focused on turtle conservation at Penyu Island, Tanjung Benoa, Badung District, on Saturday, January 11, 2025. This program, part of an environmental education initiative, aims to enhance students’ awareness and knowledge of environment conservation.
On this island, famous for its pristine white sands, students gained in-depth insight into the conversation of turtles, which are classified as protected marine animals. They learned about various aspects of turtle conversation, including captivity processes, breeding, and the release of turtles back into their natural habitat. Moreover, students explored the concept of conservation-based tourism, which integrates environmental conservation with improving the welfare of local communities.
The Coordinator of PPG Undiksha, Drs. I Gede Nurjaya, M.Pd., highlighted that this activity was designed to provide students with outdoor learning experiences focused on environmental awareness. “The knowledge gained from this activity is expected to serve as a foundation for creating environment based learning in schools,” he stated.
One of the participants, Ni Lu Putu Divya Jyoti Mahadika, expressed her enthusiasm for the event, saying, “This activity is incredibly beneficial. It not only broadens my knowledge, but also provides inspiration for using conservation concepts as teaching materials when I become a teacher.”
Through activities like this, Undiksha continues to shape teacher candidates who are not only skilled in teaching but also have a strong commitment to environment preservation. In addition to turtle conservation, students also visited The Bloo Garden in Candikuning Village, Tabanan District, where they learned about various types of flowers that can serve as tourist attractions. By fostering both environmental consciousness and academic excellence, Undiksha strengthens its commitment to producing educators who contribute to a sustainable future.
