Matching Fund is a programme that provides support from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemdikbudristek) of the Republic of Indonesia to create strategic collaborations and synergies between Higher Education personnel (higher education institutions) and partners. This programme aims to contribute to the achievement of 8 Key Performance Indicators of Higher Education that have been set by the Ministry of Education and Culture, among others: 1)Higher education graduates get decent jobs, 2) Students gain off-campus experience, 3) Lecturers engage in off-campus activities, 4)Practitioners teach on campus, 5) Lecturers’ work is useful to society and recognised internationally, 6) Campus study programmes collaborate with world-class partners, 7) Classes are collaborative and participatory, 8) International standard study programmes.

Matching funds encourage collaboration in interdisciplinary research. The research involves collaboration between various disciplines and has significant urgency and relevance in the scientific world and the development of society. This interdisciplinary research is beneficial in complex problem solving; innovation and creativity; addressing global challenges; new technology development; effective public policy development; resource optimisation; and promoting inter-organisational Cooperation.

The implementation of the Matching Fund is monitored and evaluated by internal universities and Kemdikbudristek. The results of internal monitoring and evaluation are reported to the Ministry. The Ministry monitors and evaluates the progress of activities or programme performance and the realisation of the use of funds as input to improve implementation. The Monitoring and evaluation were conducted at least once during the programme. It was conducted by reviewers and/or other parties assigned by the Ministry. The results of monitoring and evaluation are reported to the Ministry. Grantees are required to make progress reports and final reports. The university must disseminate the results of the programme/activities at least once during the programme.
