Singaraja- Commemoration of National Education Day (Hardiknas), Thursday (2/5/2019) is not only considered as a normal thing by the academic community of Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha). This annual momentum is used as a medium for evaluating educational development and uniting commitment to produce better quality. This was conveyed by the Chancellor of Undiksha, Prof. Dr. I Nyoman Jampel, M.Pd., after the ceremony at the Central Campus Ceremony Field, Jalan Udayana, Singaraja.
The Chancellor from South Kuta, Badung Regency said that one of the things that was evaluated by the Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Menristekdikti) was facing the Industrial Revolution 4.0. Higher education institutions that carry out education, teaching, research, and community service processes must be able to use information technology. This is seen as a strategy to increase competitiveness. “The online learning process is a priority. We at Undiksha welcome this policy to produce competitive, innovative, and characterful human resources. “We have revised the 2016 curriculum to become a curriculum that is oriented towards national higher education standards, KKNI, and international curriculum as a reference,” he explained.
Specifically regarding online learning, at Undiksha the Personality Development Course (MPK) is running at around 50 percent and the Teacher Professional Education (PPG) program is at 100 percent. In the 2019/2020 academic year, all study programs are required to carry out a minimum of 25 percent of courses. “We continue to encourage this to increase competitiveness,” he stressed.
At the ceremony, 23 civil servants who had served for 10 to 30 years also received the Satyalancana Karya Satya honorary mark from the President of the Republic of Indonesia. In line with that, Jampel hopes that there will be an increase in work quality and professionalism. “It wasn’t written down. But we hope to continue to improve our quality. “For lecturers who are not yet doctors, they must immediately continue their PhD,” he added.
Meanwhile, the speech of the Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education, Prof. Mohamad Nasir, who was read by Jampel, delivered the National Education Day commemoration with the theme of realizing “Competitive, Innovative, and Characteristic Human Resources”. This theme is relevant to facing conditions in a world that is becoming increasingly complex with an increasingly rapid pace of change. The software revolution has transformed economic activity with some existing jobs being replaced by automation. This shift will undoubtedly require the education system to evolve to adapt.
Considering that there are still many generations of college age who cannot afford higher education, universities, including Undiksha, are encouraged to make breakthroughs and innovations to increase the number of students. Increasing competitiveness cannot be ignored by universities. His party encourages continued improvement in institutional accreditation to excellence (A), including increasing the number and quality of research and publications, collaborating on research development at the national and international levels, and increasing student achievements at the international level.
