Singaraja- The academic community of the Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) held a ceremony to commemorate National Teacher’s Day, Monday (11/25/2019). This annual momentum must be used by teachers to carry out their real role, namely innovating and collaborating in responding to increasingly complex challenges. “The current teacher’s day momentum is something we really have to give a little more meaning to, including more hope. Because listening to what was conveyed by the Minister, through his remarks, it is an acknowledgment, as well as a promise to give more roles to teachers,” emphasized Undiksha Vice Chancellor II, Prof. Dr. I Wayan Lasmawan, M.Pd., after becoming a ceremonial inspector.
Innovation and collaboration are the demands of the Minister of Education and Culture. It is hoped that this will not only stop at the level of hope. But it must be supported by strategic efforts by involving various stakeholders, especially policymakers. Because, if an innovation is carried out upstream, but on its way to the downstream, it experiences abrasion, then the innovation that is born will be meaningless. “Therefore, in my understanding, that apart from reducing the administrative burden on teachers, the government, we all have to be present, how to provide teachers with facilities to develop themselves,” he said.
Adequate costs for teachers, according to the academic who is also the Chairman of Warek II Forums throughout Indonesia, is an important matter that must receive attention. This is to increase professionalism. “That beautiful dream will not come true if the momentum is not supportive. Including the improvement of education in Indonesia,” he said.
Undiksha as one of the Teaching Personnel Education Institutions (LPTK) also has an obligation to translate the Minister’s expectations in efforts to improve, both curriculum, learning processes, and improvement of lecturer facilities. Undiksha, which owns and oversees great teachers, also wants bigger innovations to be born. “But this requires collaboration and synergy with various parties so that the beautiful dream of making education better through the hands of teachers can come true,” he concluded.
