Singaraja- Prof. Dr. I Nyoman Jampel, M.Pd., has served as Rector of the University of Education of Ganesha (Undiksha) for the second period, 2019-2023. He was appointed and sworn in by the Minister of Research Technology and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Mohamad Nasir in Jakarta, on April 12, 2019. The inauguration was held at the same time as 6 other Higher Education Chancellors.
As a leader, various dynamics have been passed. The dynamics are quite draining, even emotional. However, for Prof Jampel this was not a burden. For him, being a leader is a mandate. It’s not an eternal thing. The leader must have a living heart, namely a heart that keeps the actions from bad impulses and acts above all groups regardless of the origins of those who are led. According to him also, a leader is required to always have creativity and innovation, and always seek solutions to the problems they face. A leader must be open-minded, must have an open mind, and have the ability to hear input from all its citizens. “These principles that I hold as a leader,” he said.
To be the number one person in this superior accredited university, Prof.’s commitment. Jampel to improve the quality and competitiveness of institutions never stops. Together with his staff, various breakthroughs were taken as an effort to accelerate realizing the university’s vision of becoming a superior university based on the Tri Hita Karana philosophy in Asia in 2045. Such as pushing for accreditation of study programs. In 2019, there were already 9 excellent accredited study programs. This number continues to increase from the previous year. Apart from that, there is also an increase in the number of lecturer and student articles in Scopus-indexed journals. In 2019, it touched 284 articles, a significant increase from 2018 with 160 articles and 2017 with 32 articles. In 2020, increasing the publication of articles in reputable international journals, accredited national journals, and indexed international conference proceedings will remain a serious concern. This is supported by the preparation of publication incentives that can stimulate all academics to improve their academic performance. “To build this university, we have to build human resources,” he said.
In addition to the publication of articles, within a year this also carried out strengthening internationalization at Home. Through this program, it is hoped that Undiksha can become a learning home for foreign students. The results of the program have been seen from the increasing number of inbound students (international students registered at Undiksha to take part in PKL activities, Social Service, BIPA Training, credit earning, etc. In addition, Undiksha students are also increasingly participating in international activities, such as street vendors, foreign PPLs, language training, international-level competitions, and several other activities. “I hope that in 2020 there will be more international activities, so that they can provide international experience to the entire Undiksha academic community, both through programs student exchange nor faculty exchange,” said the Chancellor who was born in Badung, in 1959.
Cooperation with universities abroad also continues to be expanded. One of them is Ming Chi University of Technology (MCUT), Taiwan, which offers a superior fast Track Program (Double Degree Program). The program starts in September 2020. “I will send some of Undiksha’s best students to MCUT starting this September 2020. Currently, the internal selection has been carried out. This program takes several fields of knowledge, namely Business and Management, Electronic Engineering, Material Engineering, and Visual Communication Design,” he said.
Apart from the academic field, performance achievements in the student affairs sector also show a positive trend. The number of students who achieved achievements, both in academic and non-academic fields, was above the target. In 2019 it reached around 140 people, from the target of 65 people. These achievements are not limited to the provincial and national levels, but also internationally. In the financial sector, Undiksha continues to be in the top five in budget realization.
In the future, until 2023, the Chancellor, who is also the former Dean of the Undiksha Faculty of Education, wants to make his university move faster. Armed with the principles of hard work and togetherness, this is believed to work, including being able to become UndikshaTrend-Setter and Go International. (rls/hms)
