Singaraja- Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) held an Introduction to Campus Life for New Students (PKKMB) which was opened by the Chancellor of Undiksha, Prof. Dr. I Nyoman Jampel, M.Pd, Wednesday (9/9/2020). This activity in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic was attended by 2,778 new students and took place virtually.
This activity was fully carried out with an online system, by presenting speakers from outside and within Undiksha. There were seven external resource persons, namely the Director of Learning and Student Affairs (Belmawa) of the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud), Prof. Aris Junaidi. He who represented the Director General of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and Culture, Prof. Ir. Nizam presented material on the policy of independent learning and an independent campus. Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Dra. Ni Wayan Giri Adnyani, M.Sc., with material on success stories as Undiksha alumni. Deputy Chairperson of the KPK for the 2015-2019 term, Laode Muhammad Syarif, S.H., LL.M., Ph.D. with anti-corruption material. Kesdam IX/Udayana, Brig. Dr. Ali Gufron Mukti, M.Sc., Ph.D., with material on innovation in the global Covid-19 pandemic, and Academician of the Bandung Institute of Technology, Prof. Dr. Sundani Nurono Suwandhi, M.Sc., Apt with Student Creativity Program (PKM) material. From within Undiksha, the material is filled in by the leadership with topics according to their fields.
The Chancellor of Jampel revealed that even though it was taking place online, it was hoped that it would not reduce the substance that he wanted to convey to all new students. The materials presented by the speakers are expected to provide benefits to increase insight into academics. Undiksha as a higher education institution, continued Jampel, continues to strive to improve quality and competitiveness. Various programs have been launched related to institutional governance, accreditation, publications, information, and communication technology. In addition, there are also programs for internationalization at home and making Undiksha a trend-setter university and internationally reputable university. This is in line with Undiksha’s Vision “to become a superior university with the Tri Hita Karana philosophy in Asia in 2045”. To realize this, support from students is needed. “Students must take responsibility for increasing the university’s competitiveness. Currently, Undiksha is ranked 23rd nationally for the Student Rating Information System (SIMKATMAWA). I hope that many of these new students will succeed in achieving achievements, both nationally and internationally, “he said.
In the era of the industrial revolution 4.0, university graduates are faced with challenges, including increasingly stringent competitiveness. This needs to be anticipated by students from an early age. Students are asked to be encouraged to continue to improve the quality of themselves and put forward critical Thinking, Creative Thinking, Collaboration, and communication. The “Four “C”s are the main capital for our graduates when they enter the workforce. Because we don’t know what jobs will be available in the next five or ten years. What challenges will we face in the future,” said the Chancellor from Nusa Dua, Badung Regency.
The Chairperson of the PKKMB Committee, Kadek Andre Karisma Dewantara explained the activity which was attended by students from eight faculties as a medium to accelerate the process of adaptation of new students to the environment and academic life at the Ganesha University of Education campus, both adaptation in the field of programs and activities at Undiksha, the ins, and outs of higher education as a scientific institution, adaptation with leaders and the academic community and employees, adaptation of Undiksha’s facilities and infrastructure, as well as adaptation of Undiksha’s curriculum and environment.“This will be held for 3 days starting today, Wednesday, 9 September 2020 and will end through a closing event on Friday, 11 September 2020,” he explained.
