Singaraja- The Introduction to Campus Life for New Students (PKKMB) at the Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) is filled with various materials. One of them relates to the General Election (Election), which was filled in by sources from the Bali Provincial Election Commission (KPU), Monday (15/8/2022). On this occasion, new students who entered as millennials were invited to become smart voters in every political event.
This socialization was carried out by a member of the Bali KPU, I Gede John Darmawan. He delivered material related to the general election principles which consisted of direct, public, free, secret, honest, and fair. Apart from that, he also discussed the principles of elections and others. After the activity, he said that more than 50 percent of the voters were youth and millennial voters. Students are first-time voters who will determine their votes in every political event, including in the 2024 Election. For this reason, the KPU provides education on democracy in order to realize elections that have high quantity and quality.
He also reminded us that in the midst of the development of the digital era, opportunities for negative action against elections need to be watched out for. Digital media can be used as a space for the dissemination of false information(hoaxes) and covert campaigns. Therefore, he invited students to later become smart voters, be able to pay attention to circulating information, and look for reliable sources. “We zoom out a hoax, we zoom outback campaign by getting information directly or searching through other media,” he asked.
It is hoped that through this socialization, students can be involved in educating the public and can exercise their right to vote in the upcoming elections. (hms)
