Singaraja- The Faculty of Medicine, Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) continues to make efforts to realize quality clinical education or COAS. One of them is by increasing the knowledge of young doctors through public lectures, Wednesday (9/3/2022).
The public lecture which took place in the Rectorate’s Ganesha III Room presented a guest speaker, dr. Putu Moda Arsana, Sp.PD-KEMD., FINASIM. He who served as Chair of the Indonesian Medical Council presented the material “Clinical Learning Process in Teaching Hospitals”. He explained that in clinical education, students directly learn about patients. They must master clinical processes, master physical examinations, master additional examinations, master diseases that may be related to patients, master diagnostic criteria, and others, including mastering communication with patients. This education is very different from book-centered academic education. “Academic education is learning from books, clinical education is learning from patients,” he explained.
He emphasized that a series of clinical processes must be mastered by students so that later they can become doctors who are ready to go into the community and be able to directly treat patients. On this occasion, Moda Arsana also emphasized that in the implementation of clinical education, the synergy of campuses, hospitals, and students is very important. “Students are learners or doers, then the campus is guiding, then the hospital provides facilities and mentors. This hospital supervisor must synergize their scientific inline with what was taught at the beginning. If it’s not inline, students will get confused,” he said.
The resource person from Banyuatis Village, Banjar District, Buleleng Regency also hopes that the medical faculty of Undiksha and others can produce competent doctors. Competence is not only limited locally but also globally, namely being able to compete with doctors in other countries. “The age may be young, but the enthusiasm in teaching good competence must be maintained,” he added.
Vice Dean II FK Undiksha, Dr. dr. Ni Luh Kadek Alit Arsani, S.Ked., M.Biomed., explained that clinical education took place at the Main Teaching Hospital of the Undiksha Faculty of Medicine, namely the Buleleng Regional General Hospital (RSUD). This education was attended by 44 students who were the first generation. He hopes that this public lecture can increase students’ understanding. “We hope that what is presented today can be understood by students. This is important for professional education,” she said.
