Singaraja – Ganesha University of Education is making efforts to develop the potential of Buleleng Regency. This time, the A-accredited university together with the Buleleng Regency Government (Pemkab) in collaboration with Central Queensland University (CQU) and the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) are trying to develop livestock potential in the Buleleng Regency area. The Technical Meeting Program activity, called the Animal Triple Helix, was held in the Ganesha I Undiksha room, Monday (2/3/2020).
The Triple Helix collaboration intends to develop the potential of livestock in Buleleng Regency, especially Bali cattle which is planned to be used as a pilot project for beef self-sufficiency. The meeting was attended by the Undiksha Chancellor and his staff, the Directorate of Food and Agriculture of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), PSTA BATAN, the Bali Provincial Food Security Service, the Head of the Buleleng Regency Agriculture Office, Buleleng Regency Bappeda Representatives, and several related SKPD representatives in Buleleng Regency and representatives from Central Queensland University, Australia.
Undiksha Chancellor, Prof. Dr. I Nyoman Jampel, M.Pd. explained that the program initiated by Bappenas was originally intended to stop Indonesia from importing beef. “Bappenas is collaborating on meeting about the needs of beef with 3 major universities in Indonesia. Through this program, Undiksha will be assisted by Bappenas and Central Queensland University to establish a technology-based Animal Husbandry study program,” he said.
The Triple Helix program, he continued, is to increase the synergy between academia, government/community and business and industry (DUDI), especially related to the development of downstream study programs and graduates. “For its implementation, universities, the government and the business world need to sit together to develop curriculum, internship programs and industry readiness to receive output from Undiksha. If successful, not only in beef production, but also in other farms production,” he said.
It also revealed that Undiksha needs to be creative with other stakeholders, such as the Hindu University of Indonesia and Udayana University regarding the availability of human resources. “Because the competent human resources (animal husbandry, ed) are at those universities. Meanwhile in Undiksha, we have the fields of biology, marketing, and tourism that can back up so that the study program can be superior, to produce beef that the industry needs,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, the Buleleng Regency Government represented by the Head of the Buleleng Regency Agriculture Service, Ir. I Made Sumiarta revealed that the Buleleng Regency Government will prepare the things needed for the development of cows. One of them is related to the availability of land and supporting infrastructure for its operations, as well as by educating Undiksha’s students who are also synergizing in efforts to develop the cows breeding center. “Later on, the Buleleng Regency Government will prepare land to use in this project which is belonging to the Provincial Government and Regional Government, precisely in Munduk Village, Banjar District as well as Gerokgak and Patas Village in Gerokgak District,” he said.
