Singaraja- Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha) held its 59th graduation on 29 and 30 August 2019. The graduation which took place at the campus Auditorium was attended by 1,946 graduates from various study programs. Holding academic degrees, they are expected to become superior Human Resources (HR), able to compete in a challenging global era without neglecting character. This was conveyed by the Chancellor of Undiksha, Prof. Dr. I Nyoman Jampel, M.Pd.
Realizing superior human resources, explained Undiksha had carried out breakthroughs in terms of input, process, output, and outcome. Starting with a professional recruitment system to improve the quality of human resources through training, advanced studies, and other superior HR development programs. One of the programs launched this year is the Internationalization at Home / Program which aims to increase the knowledge, skills, and international experience of Undiksha HR which is currently a global demand. “With this, the competitiveness of Undiksha’s human resources increases as the times change which are increasingly complex. This is in line with Undiksha’s vision, which is to excel based on the tri hita karana philosophy in Asia in 2045,” he explained.
In addition to programs to improve science and technology, a character-building program was also rolled out for human resources within Undiksha through a character-building program for educators education staff, and students. In other words, Undiksha’s human resources are encouraged to be competitive scientifically and also competitive in character. As global competition increases in the era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0, which is marked by faster changes and increasingly fierce competition, the need for quality human resources is inevitable. “President Jokowi stated that superior human resources are the key to Indonesia’s future. Higher education as the last line of education must be able to form human resources who are honest, hardworking, collaborative, solutive, and entrepreneurship. On the other hand, they must also be competitive in mastering knowledge and skills, mastering the emerging skills, capable of filling the emerging jobs, and being innovative in building emerging businesses. This is also a serious concern for Undiksha,” said Jampel.
As one of the higher education institutions that relies on the noble values of education, Undiksha from the start has made the quality of human resources an integrated part of institutional development, including the quality of graduates. Undiksha, through its graduates, places great importance on instilling the values of kindness and wisdom as the core of character education and is far higher in value than producing graduates who are competent but lack character. “In other words, Undiksha graduates must be superior and have character. In line with this preposition, intra, extra, and co-curricular activities among students are always directed at how these character values can be cultivated so that later they can become daily habits,” he explained.
If this can be done properly, according to the former Dean of the Undiksha Faculty of Education, the development of universal nationalism and nationalism will also be realized optimally. This is important because Undiksha realizes that to be able to compete in the constellation of global competition, strengthening the foundations of national values as a form of character education must first be carried out. It is realized that these graduates have not fully realized their superior potential. Because of that, Jampel asks to continue to develop Superior Human Resources in order to realize an Advanced Indonesia. “You have to keep digging for skills. This is very important to increase competitiveness. It’s not enough just to have an academic degree now,” he said.
