Goal 5 – Gender Equality

Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls by eliminating discrimination, violence, and harmful practices. Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world. There has been progress over the last decades, but the world is not on track to achieve gender equality by 2030.

Women’s progress measures

Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha (Undiksha) is steadfast in its commitment to promoting gender equality through a comprehensive policy of non-discrimination against women across all facets of university life. This policy ensures equal opportunities for women, fostering an inclusive and supportive environment where they can thrive both academically and professionally.

To uphold this commitment, Undiksha implements proactive measures to prevent gender-based discrimination and harassment. The university provides accessible platforms for reporting concerns, ensures accountability, and regularly conducts initiatives such as gender sensitivity training, advocacy programs, and collaborations with organizations championing women’s rights.

The university’s gender equality policy focuses on three key areas:

  1. Eliminating Discrimination: Clear regulations and reporting mechanisms actively discourage gender-based discrimination, ensuring a safe and equitable environment.
  2. Promoting Equal Opportunities: Undiksha guarantees equal access for women in education, leadership, and decision-making roles, empowering them to achieve their full potential.
  3. Supporting Work-Life Balance: Policies such as maternity leave and childcare facilities enable women to balance their academic or professional responsibilities with parenthood effectively.
  4. This policy reflects Undiksha’s dedication to fostering a community that values respect, fairness, and equality, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 5 (Gender Equality).

Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha (Undiksha) is committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for women through its comprehensive maternity policy. This policy, grounded in the Government Regulations of the Republic of Indonesia Number 11 of 2017 on Civil Servant Management, is designed to enable women to balance their roles as mothers while actively participating in academic and professional activities.

Key aspects of the policy include:

  • Paid Maternity Leave: Women are entitled to sufficient paid leave, allowing them to prioritize their health and the well-being of their newborns without financial burden.
  • Flexible Work and Study Arrangements: Flexible options, including remote work or adjusted schedules, are provided to accommodate the unique needs of mothers during and after maternity.
  • Health and Wellness Support: The policy ensures access to medical care, counseling, and support groups to promote both physical and mental well-being throughout pregnancy and postpartum.

This maternity policy highlights Undiksha’s dedication to creating a nurturing and equitable environment that empowers women to thrive in their academic and professional journeys. It aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 5 (Gender Equality) and Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), reinforcing the university’s commitment to inclusivity and the well-being of its community.

Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha (Undiksha) demonstrates its commitment to promoting gender equality in education through a data-driven approach aimed at assessing and improving student outcomes based on gender. By systematically tracking graduation rates and other key metrics, the university identifies any disparities between male and female students. This data is consolidated and reported through the Executive Information System (EIS), which allows faculty staff to monitor trends and pinpoint areas for improvement.

Through the EIS, the university can assess whether there is a significant gap between the graduation rates of male and female students. If such a gap exists, the data provides a basis for developing targeted initiatives and policies to address the issue. These initiatives may include scholarships, mentorship programs, or changes in course delivery to ensure that all students, regardless of gender, have equal opportunities to succeed.

By continuously evaluating and responding to this data, Undiksha ensures that its educational policies and strategies foster an inclusive environment where all students have the support they need to thrive, leading to equitable outcomes in higher education.
