Low-Carbon Energy Use
At Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha (Undiksha), we are dedicated to reducing our environmental impact and promoting sustainability across campus. One key area of focus is the use of low carbon energy. To measure and track our progress in this regard, the university has been actively participating in the Green Metric Assessment. This global ranking system evaluates universities on their commitment to environmental sustainability, including energy consumption and the use of renewable energy sources.
As part of our efforts to monitor and reduce our carbon footprint, Undiksha tracks the amount of low carbon energy used throughout the campus. This includes the implementation of energy-efficient technologies, the integration of renewable energy sources such as solar power, and efforts to minimize energy waste in university buildings and facilities. The data collected through this monitoring process allows Undiksha to continuously assess its energy use, identify areas for improvement, and take concrete steps to increase the use of renewable and low carbon energy.
By participating in the Green Metric Assessment, Undiksha is not only contributing to global sustainability goals but also ensuring that our energy usage aligns with best practices in environmental stewardship. Our educational initiatives focus on empowering local communities with practical tools and strategies for mitigating climate risks, particularly in disaster-prone areas. A key aspect of this program is our collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority (BNPB), which helps deliver expert-led education and training on disaster preparedness and climate change adaptation.
One example of this collaboration is our earthquake mitigation simulation and outreach activities for elementary school students and village communities in Desa Serai. This initiative focuses on enhancing the community's resilience to natural disasters, promoting awareness, and providing valuable information on how to reduce risks in the event of earthquakes and other environmental hazards. The program also emphasizes the importance of local preparedness and how each individual can play a role in mitigating the effects of climate-related disasters.
Undiksha's commitment to climate action is embodied in its Campus Disaster Preparedness Program, a proactive initiative aimed at reducing the risks associated with disasters, including those caused by climate change. This program is designed to tackle disaster risks from multiple angles—both through physical development and by raising awareness to enhance the community's ability to respond effectively to various disaster threats.
The program focuses on making the campus more resilient to climate-induced hazards, such as floods, earthquakes, and extreme weather events, by integrating disaster risk reduction measures into the campus infrastructure. This includes the construction of safe, disaster-resistant buildings, the establishment of evacuation routes, and the installation of early warning systems.
In addition to physical development, the program places a strong emphasis on community education. By providing students, staff, and faculty with training and resources on disaster preparedness, Undiksha ensures that the campus community is well-equipped to respond to emergency situations. The university regularly organizes awareness campaigns, workshops, and simulations that educate participants on how to act in the event of a disaster, including the importance of climate adaptation strategies.

The Undiksha Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) plays an essential role in promoting disaster risk reduction and climate resilience through its collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority (BNPB) in Buleleng Regency. Together, they prioritize disaster/risk early warning and monitoring as key topics in the community service activities conducted by our students.
This partnership ensures that disaster preparedness and response are deeply integrated into the university’s community engagement initiatives. Through this collaboration, students are actively involved in educating and training local communities about disaster risks, early warning systems, and how to monitor potential threats. By providing students with hands-on experience in these critical areas, Undiksha is not only enhancing their academic development but also contributing to the region’s overall resilience against natural disasters.

Commitment to Carbon Neutral University
Achieving Net Zero Carbon at Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha (Undiksha) is an ambitious goal that requires the collective effort and collaboration of various stakeholders across the university. This comprehensive approach involves contributions from university administration, faculty, staff, students, and facilities management to ensure the successful implementation of sustainable practices and carbon reduction initiatives.
Key Stakeholders in Achieving Net Zero Carbon:
- University Administration: The administration plays a leading role in setting the overall vision and strategy for Net Zero Carbon. This includes allocating the necessary resources, overseeing the implementation of sustainability initiatives, and ensuring that the university’s infrastructure undergoes necessary upgrades to reduce its carbon footprint. The administration is also responsible for collaborating with external partners, such as government agencies and sustainability experts, to support the university’s long-term environmental goals.
- Faculty and Staff: Faculty and staff are essential in raising awareness about climate change and sustainability among students and the broader campus community. Through their teaching and research, they have the opportunity to integrate sustainability principles into academic curricula and projects. By fostering a culture of sustainability, faculty and staff can inspire students to adopt environmentally conscious behaviors and explore solutions to global environmental challenges.
- Students: Students play an active role in achieving Net Zero Carbon by participating in various campus sustainability initiatives. They can lead efforts to promote carpooling, encourage the adoption of renewable energy on campus, and reduce energy consumption in dormitories. By engaging in campus-wide sustainability programs, students contribute to creating a green campus and can take these eco-friendly practices into their future careers and communities.
- Facilities Management: The Facilities Management team is responsible for the physical aspects of the university’s sustainability efforts. This includes implementing energy efficiency measures across campus buildings, transitioning to renewable energy sources, and ensuring effective waste management systems. Facilities Management plays a critical role in reducing the university's carbon emissions by optimizing energy use, improving building systems, and ensuring that all sustainability measures are consistently followed.
