Universitas Pendidikan GaneshaUniversitas Pendidikan Ganesha’ hereinafter referred to as Undiksha is a university which is responsible to the Ministry of Research and Technology and Higher Education, and is located in Singaraja, Bali Province.

Undiksha was established on 11 May 2006 based on the Presidential Decree of the Republic of Indonesia No. 11 of 2006 concerning the Change  of the State Singaraja Institute of Teacher Training ‘Institut Keguruandan Ilmu Pendidikan Negeri Singaraja’ into Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha ‘Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha’ (Undiksha).

The symbol of Undiksha is Ganesha with the motto dharmaning sajjana umerdhyaken widyaguna, meaning that wise people are obliged to develop knowledge and character.


The symbol of Undiksha is made up of:

  1. The frame the pentagonal basic element (the basic color is blue, the inner edge is white, and the outer edge is golden yellow).
  2. Lord Ganesha
  3. The sea of Lord Ganesha is ornamented with lotus
  4. Above Lord Ganesha the Ministry of Research and Technology and Higher Education is printed, and underneath His seat Undiksha which stands for Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha is printed.

The meaning of the symbol of Undiksha is as follows.

  1. The frame reflects the foundation and philosophy of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.
  2. The elephant’s head means that Ganesha symbolizes knowledge, wisdom and intelligence.
  3. The elephant’s wide ears symbolize the ability to listen to information, process it intellectually to bear knowledge.
  4. The trunk symbolizes the implementation of knowledge in the form of technologies which are useful to human life.
  5. The trunk absorbing modaka in the bowl symbolizes the attempts perpetually made to acquire knowledge, technologies, and/or arts implemented in the human life.
  6. The well-fed body symbolizes the implementation of knowledge, technologies, and/or arts to improve people’s prosperity.
  7. The distended stomach symbolizes the ability to keep peace so that people can proportionally and perpetually anticipate the life experiences which benefit and inflict them.
  8. Sitting cross-legged symbolizes that scientists should behave quietly, persistently, reflectively and contemplatively and havedeep insights into the future without neglecting the past and current experiences.
  9. The seat ornamented with lotus means that when excavating and implementing knowledge, technologies, and/or arts, the principle of what is correct versus what is incorrect, the principle of what is bad versus what is good, the principle of holiness, and what they can contribute to people’s prosperity should be paid attention to.
  10. The upper corollas of the lotus totaling eleven symbolize the 11th day and the lower corollas of the lotus totaling five symbolize May, indicating when the Presidential Decree of the Republic Indonesia concerning the Change of the State Institute of Teacher Training and Education of Singaraja into Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha.
  11. The four hands symbolize that knowledge, technologies, and/or arts are so powerful that they pierce the four points of the compass.
  12. Each hand holds (a) what is referred to as modaka symbolizing leadership, (b) an ax symbolizing technologies, (c) a rosary symbolizing spiritual knowledge, (d) ivory fracture symbolizing the pen in knowledge, and (e) the Padma-shaped seat of Ganesha symbolizing holiness and wisdom.
