Singaraja- Radicalism, hoaxes, and a firehose of falsehood are still problems in Indonesia. This has the potential to trigger divisions between communities. Therefore, there needs to be a commitment to fight, especially from students. This was confirmed by the Bali Regional Police Chief, Inspector General of Police Dr. Petrus Reinhard Golose in a face-to-face event with the academic community of Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha), Monday (4/3/2019).
At the event held by the Student Activities Unit (UKM) of the Undiksha Student Regiment with thousands of participants, the Regional Police Chief said that students as the millennial generation and prospective academics must be aware of the trap of this case. Because it does not rule out the possibility of becoming a target or victim. “Students as prospective scientists must avoid things called hoaxes and firehoses of falsehood. “This also includes understanding radicalism,” he stressed.
To prevent the emergence of such cases, the sense of nationalism towards the nation and state must continue to be strengthened. This also needs to continue to be campaigned to the wider community. No less important, we must adhere closely to the 4 pillars of nationality, namely Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution, the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI), and Bhinneka Tunggal Ika. “The pillars of nationality must continue to be strengthened,” he said. On this occasion, it was also announced that in the near future, there will be a General Election (Pemilu) celebration in Indonesia. It is hoped that the entire Undiksha academic community can make this a success with positive things.
Meanwhile, Undiksha Chancellor, Dr. I Nyoman Jampel, M.Pd positively welcomed the presence of the regional police chief and his staff. What is conveyed is considered very important to increase student understanding. It was emphasized that the academic community is committed to supporting the eradication of radicalism, hoaxes, and the like. “What was conveyed was very good, as a way to prevent students from becoming victims of hoaxes, understanding radicalism or not getting involved,” he said. Apart from this seminar, strengthening the spirit of nationalism in students has also been carried out through civics education courses as well as basic social and cultural sciences. “At Undiksha the sense of tolerance is very good. Here students come from Sabang to Merauke. The institution’s vision also carries Tri Hita Karana. “This is also a way to foster a harmonious situation,” he said. (hms)
